Abstract

Paraparetic variant of Guillain-Barre syndrome (pGBS) is very rare and remains to be unknown in terms of its immunological and electrophysiological aspects. We report a patient presenting with acute paresis with severe pain, confined to bilateral lower limbs. Serial nerve conduction studies revealed a pattern of axonal injury. The patient had high titers of IgG anti-GM1 and anti-GD1b antibodies. It is likely that pGBS can be underestimated because its clinical and electrophysiological patterns are not typical, compared to classic GBS.
